RIVER GUDGEON
Small profile. Big commitment bites.
The River Gudgeon is a 42 mm slow-floating shallow runner crankbait designed to be fished tight to structure in creeks, rivers and shallow edges. Built to imitate a small native baitfish, it excels when predatory fish are holding in cover and unwilling to chase fast-moving lures.
This is a precision lure — not a burn-and-retrieve crankbait.
Why It Works
Most predatory fish position beside timber, rock and undercut banks and wait for food to pass within reach.
The River Gudgeon targets those fish.
Its compact profile and controlled action present naturally in clear water while still producing enough presence to be noticed. When paused, the lure slowly floats upward, often triggering a reaction strike from fish holding tight to cover.
Designed For Structure
Work it along:
• laydown timber
• submerged logs
• rock edges
• shaded banks
• overhanging vegetation
• shallow margins
The slow float allows the lure to rise away from snags instead of digging deeper, letting you fish tighter through high-percentage areas.
Action & Retrieve
The River Gudgeon swims with a tight, natural wobble suited to clear water and pressured systems.
How to fish it:
Cast tight to structure
Wind just enough to reach running depth
Allow the lure to contact timber or rock
Pause
Let it slowly float upward
Repeat with gentle twitches
Strikes commonly occur:
• as the lure lifts away from structure
• immediately after deflecting off timber
• during the pause
Fish it slower than you think.
Fishing Notes
Allow the lure to make contact with cover before pausing the retrieve. The slow-floating body backs the lure away from snags while keeping it in the strike zone.
Particularly effective in clear water and pressured fisheries.
Recommended Leader: 6–12 lb fluorocarbon
Specifications
Length: 42 mm
Type: Shallow Runner Crankbait
Buoyancy: Slow Floating
Running Depth: 0.3–0.9 m
Designed For: Timber and shallow banks
Target Species: Australian Bass, Murray Cod, Yellowbelly (Golden Perch)
Please note: Colours may vary slightly between lures.
